Cloud Dwellers were part of a design competition for the Boer War Memorial in Canberra. The canopy of the memorial defines its space and form, and makes reference to the fortified towers known as Blockhouses that are an iconic artefact of the war. The canopy suggests a reconciliation of the realms of entrapment felt by the Allied troops within the fortifications, and the Boer’s who became encircled by the lines of Blockhouses. The interior incorporates the client’s request to acknowledge this as a war fought in part on horseback. The image of mother and foal references that Australian federation occurred during the war.
