An existing 22 year old house at Redcliffe suffered from disconnection with its site and between its internal spaces. Improving the internal connections meant removing the interiors only expressive element - a face-brick wall with an archway opening. New double brick walls followed as the defining material of the new work, allowing a continuity between inside and outside. The line of enclosure separating the house and backyard has been pushed out into the clear-roofed patio structure, bringing a new light-filled edge to the interior. The material authenticity is continued through overhead timber elements, and stone caps to low walls that create occupiable edges to landscape spaces and the street interface.
